Daniel: Mommy, sabi mo pag-aaralan natin ang hell sa revolution. (Mommy, you said we're going to study hell in revolution)
Mommy (very tired): Huh? What revolution?
Daniel: Revolution. From the Bible. You said that last night.
Mommy: Aaah, Revelation.
Daniel: Yun na nga (that''s it).
One evening before we went to bed. Daddy gave the boys coins to keep in their wallets.
Hans: (crying) Haaaaah, the coins keeps dropping from my wallet.
Mommy: Because it's not a wallet, It's a card holder. I'll buy you one tomorrow.
Early morning the next day. Mommy just woke up.
Hans: Mommy! Mommy! Where's my new wallet? You promised to buy me wallet.
Mommy: Huh? I just said that last night. I haven't left the house yet. Daniel, did I just said that last night? (Daniel, reading Daddy's Gadget magazine and without looking at me, nodded).
Hans: Ah. Kala ko matagal na. (I thought you said that long time ago). Okey.
After the third periodical test, rankings reported….
Hans: Mommy, Top 1 ulit ako sa Kindergarten (I'm on top 1 again in Kindergarten).
(He does not really understand what's the ranking for. He just saw it on the bulletin board.)
Daniel: Mommy, I have good news. I'm back to Number 2. (He was Number 2, then demoted to Number 3 in first and 2nd grading, respectively).
Lester: (Very happy and excited. Just like Hans, he does not care about the ranking, but reported to Mommy anyway. This bedimpled boy easily smiles and laughs, easy to please). Mommy, I'm sharing the Top 3 with ________. I'm happy because we're buddies. Now, we're both Number 3.
Mommy: (I don't know whether to laugh or get angry) Lester, you were number 2 for first and 2nd grading period, and now you're very happy that you're number 3 and sharing the rank with others?
Lester just smiled. How could you get mad at this kid who's very happy that his friend is now included in Top 3, even sharing the rank with him?
Conversations like these with my kids before I rush to work or go to bed play in my mind when I'm in the crowded train, standing inside the bus or walking alone at Ayala AVenue.
Negative thoughts may fill the mind of this harassed working Mom. But there are more things to thank God for. I just can't ignore them. It's my choice.
I'm blessed.
